Purity
Purity is the percentage of a sample that is the target compound, determined by HPLC. Research-grade peptides are typically verified at ≥99% purity on a lot-specific COA.
Chromatographic purity is calculated as the area of the main HPLC peak divided by the total area of all detected peaks, so a 99% value means the target compound accounts for 99% of the integrated signal. Common impurities in synthetic peptides include truncated or deletion sequences, products of incomplete deprotection, residual solvents, and counterions such as trifluoroacetate (TFA).
Chromatographic purity is distinct from net peptide content, which accounts for non-peptide mass such as water and salts and is assessed separately. Higher, independently verified purity reduces variability and confounding factors in sensitive in-vitro assays.
