The IGF-1 receptor is a transmembrane receptor tyrosine kinase that binds IGF-1 (and insulin, with lower affinity) to trigger PI3K/Akt and Ras/MAPK signaling cascades. It is a standard target in cell-proliferation and receptor-binding research.
IGF-1R shares substantial structural homology with the insulin receptor, and the two can form hybrid receptors that are studied in metabolic signaling research.
