Research reference
When a lyophilized research peptide is dissolved, the concentration of the stock solution is set by one division: the mass of peptide in the vial over the volume of solvent added.
mg ÷ mL = mg/mL. Multiply by 1,000 for mcg/mL.
A vial holding 5 mg of peptide, dissolved in 2 mL of solvent, gives 5 ÷ 2 = 2.5 mg/mL. Since 1 mg is 1,000 mcg, that is 2,500 mcg/mL. Use 1 mL instead and the same vial gives 5 mg/mL; use 3 mL and it gives about 1.67 mg/mL. The peptide mass never changes, only how dilute the stock is.
Stock concentration for common vial masses and solvent volumes.

Concentration equals the mass of peptide divided by the volume of solvent. For example, 5 mg of peptide dissolved in 2 mL of solvent gives 2.5 mg/mL, which is the same as 2,500 mcg/mL.
They move in opposite directions. Doubling the solvent volume halves the concentration, and halving it doubles the concentration. The mass of peptide in the vial does not change, only how dilute the stock solution is.
One milligram is 1,000 micrograms, so multiply mg/mL by 1,000 to get mcg/mL, and divide mcg/mL by 1,000 to get mg/mL. A 2.5 mg/mL stock is 2,500 mcg/mL.
Bring the lyophilized vial and the solvent to room temperature, measure the chosen solvent volume with a calibrated pipette, and add it slowly down the inside wall of the vial rather than onto the powder. Let the powder dissolve on its own and swirl gently if needed; do not shake. Divide into single-use aliquots and store refrigerated.
