Also known as: SIRT, SIRT1
Sirtuins are a family of NAD+-dependent deacetylase enzymes (SIRT1–SIRT7) that regulate cellular metabolism, DNA repair, and stress response. Their catalytic activity depends directly on cellular NAD+ availability.
Because sirtuin activity requires NAD+ as a co-substrate, sirtuins are studied in vitro alongside NAD+-precursor compounds in cellular energy-metabolism research.
